Technology has revolutionized the way teachers teach and students learn. On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, University Grants Commission (UGC) has come up with an innovative capacity-building plan to help 15 lakh teachers in higher educational institutions to hone their skills and instil ethics and human values. This mission has been named as Malaviya Mission-Teacher Training Programme (MMTTC) and it aims to complete the training of all 15 lakh teachers in the next two to three years.
UGC has identified 111 institutes to provide training to the teachers. The programme offers online and offline courses with a duration of two weeks. The mission focuses on various aspects such as holistic education, Indian knowledge systems, academic leadership, governance, research, skill development, assessment, inclusion, technology integration, learning outcomes identification, and evaluation. The training material will provide a mix of Indian values and global perspective with the help of cutting-edge technology to help teachers in the changing higher education scenario.
UGC Chairman, M Jagadesh Kumar, said, “It prioritises the ongoing professional development of faculty, offering a forward-looking orientation across various themes.” He also added that the mission emphasises faculty development as well as their involvement in institutional development. Faculty members have already enrolled for the capacity-building activities through a special faculty site.
The Malaviya Mission will help teachers to adopt innovative approaches to curriculum transactions, teaching-learning, pedagogical methodologies, and assessment procedures as suggested by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. This mission will create a platform for teachers to exchange ideas and gain new knowledge for better teaching.
Technology has become an integral part of our society and this mission will help teachers to use it to its fullest potential. It will help them to become a better teacher and provide quality education to the students.
