“UNDP Launches Groundbreaking E-Learning Programme to Promote Sustainable Finance”

Posted by

Edtech Review recently came across the United Nations Development Programme’s (UNDP) Sustainable Finance Hub’s revolutionary e-Learning Programme. This programme is a response to the world’s urgent need to support and enhance sustainable finance.

Teachers and students alike can access this open-access e-Learning Programme with just an internet connection. It is composed of 10 comprehensive modules that provide a fundamental understanding of the topic as well as more in-depth explorations of the essential areas for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Director of the Sustainable Finance Hub said, “Sustainable finance is the cornerstone of our collective SDG aspirations. We are passionate about making it possible for people all over the world to redirect funds effectively towards national SDG targets and create a sustainable finance blueprint that is beneficial to everyone.”

The UN’s 2021 SDG Report showed a significant rise in poverty, the first increase in extreme poverty in decades. This presents a challenge to donor governments as they are unable to increase Official Development Assistance (ODA) to support SDG achievement due to limits imposed by their national recovery endeavours. ODA was stagnant at 0.33% of gross national income, which is significantly lower than the UN target of 0.7%.

The Sustainable Finance Hub of UNDP created the SDG Finance Academy to share its expertise in sustainable finance with global practitioners. The Academy’s e-Learning Programme is a way to provide support to the Sustainable Development Goals, and it is also expanding collaboration avenues and streamlining help to build a worldwide sustainable finance community. The courses in the Programme cover topics such as budgeting, taxation, thematic bonds and insurance for the SDGs, and more.

At Edtech Review, we believe that this e-Learning Programme is a great way for teachers to learn more about sustainable finance and give their students a better understanding of the topic. For more information about the e-Learning Programme and its courses, visit sdgfinance.undp.org/courses.
