Using the latest technology, Sharpen, an education tech startup from Concord, Massachusetts, has developed a science-backed early-risk assessment and high-outcome digital reading programme to help parents empower their children. The company has recently raised $11 million in its Series A funding round, led by Learn Capital.
Sharpen’s digital reading programme is designed to help children aged from pre-K to elementary level, with scripted lessons and constant progress monitoring. It is based on the Science of Reading developed by a team of researchers and literacy experts. Parents can use the Early Advantage Reading Assessment to identify any potential reading challenges their children may have as early as two years old.
The Reading Programme is designed to help children improve their reading skills by a whole grade level in as little as three months with only 15-30 minutes of daily use. Sharpen’s platform also provides parents and tutors with resources to teach their children effectively and efficiently.
Sharpen has partnered with research universities such as Yale University, the University of Texas at Houston Health Centre, and Brock University to ensure that their reading programme is of the highest quality. Studies have shown that early detection and intervention are essential for the best long-term outcomes for children.
Founded in 2019, Sharpen’s mission is to provide families with the tools they need to identify reading difficulties early and give children the opportunity to learn to read. The team at Sharpen is passionate about helping families have equitable and affordable access to learning solutions.
