The Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) division of the Education Ministry has recently announced the launch of IKS Wiki, an online repository to spread traditional knowledge and cultural information. This open-source platform is expected to serve as a comprehensive library of Bharatiya Gyan Parampara, accessible across the world. To ensure that the platform is well-stocked with comprehensive information, the ministry has also launched an internship programme for students to contribute to its development.

The internship programme is designed to engage students in diverse forms of artistic expression like pictures, sketches and cartoons to depict the oral traditions of Bharat. It also provides a remuneration of Rs. 1000 per accepted article, encouraging the youth to carry out meaningful research and contribute to IKS Wiki.

In 2020, the ministry established the IKS division as an innovation cell at the All India Council for Technical Education to promote interdisciplinary research on indigenous knowledge issues. The platform is intended to provide information in a simplified language that teachers and students can comprehend.

Through this initiative, the Education Ministry has taken a major step towards preserving and promoting India’s rich traditional knowledge heritage. The student applications for the internship programme are open until December 25, 2020, with the selected interns being announced on January 5, 2021.

This initiative is certain to be beneficial for teachers and students alike, as it provides them with access to a plethora of authentic resources and encourages them to engage in meaningful research. The IKS Wiki platform is a great example of how educational technology can be used to bridge the gap between traditional knowledge and the digital world.
