The Andhra Pradesh State Government has recently partnered with edX, a leading e-learning platform, to offer massive open online courses (MOOCs) to college students from the state. The collaboration aims to enable learners to access over 1,000 courses from a variety of disciplines, including computer science, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), arts, and commerce, free of cost.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) and edX was signed by Principal Secretary J Shyamala Rao, edX Founder and CEO Anant Agarwal, and Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy said: “The agreement with edX is a game changer in the higher education sector, as it will provide students with access to the best courses certified by renowned international universities like Harvard, MIT, Cambridge, and Oxford – free of cost. These courses will be a great benefit to those who are looking for the best job opportunities in India and abroad.”
Anant Agarwal, CEO of edX, praised the Chief Minister’s vision and said: “The CM’s vision will provide learners with access to the best courses from the top universities across the world, regardless of their background. This is the true democratization of learning through technology.”
EdX will also work with the APSCHE department to develop a roadmap for expanding existing university courses, as well as advise the officials on curriculum design, new vertical creation, revamping existing courses, and innovation in education for re-skilling and upskilling students.
The courses offered by edX are globally recognized and upon successful completion, the students will receive a certificate from the respective university or institution. This initiative will empower thousands of students in Andhra Pradesh to gain the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in the modern world.
