Calvin University and Compass College of Film and Media have partnered to develop an innovative program that allows students to major in film studies and media arts at Calvin University. This collaboration will offer students currently enrolled or slated to begin coursework at Compass College in the Fall of 2023 semester the opportunity to transfer their credits to Calvin University and receive tuition matching and financial aid award packages.
The President of Calvin University, Wiebe Boer, is excited to expand the faith-centred storytelling across traditional and emerging platforms and mediums through the merging of the two institutions. Joanna Hogan, President of Compass College, believes that the partnership will create an even richer educational experience for students as they gain access to Calvin’s award-winning Department of Communication.
The collaboration will also create a physical presence for Calvin University in downtown Grand Rapids in Compass College’s 29,000-square-foot building at 41 Sheldon Street SE. Calvin will use the building as a learning facility for film studies and other areas of learning.
Calvin University is dedicated to providing a seamless transition for Compass College students, making sure that their credits transfer and providing a comprehensive framework for the transition of assets, regulatory approvals and board approvals.
This partnership will equip educators with the necessary tools and knowledge to equip their students to use their gifts to the glory of God. Educators will benefit from the cutting-edge film studies programming, knowledge and skills that Compass College and Calvin University have to offer. By providing students with the opportunity to engage in intensive internships, community-based service learning and significant research, educators are able to further enhance their students’ academic and personal development.
