Teacher Accreditation Platform CENTA Raises $1 Million

CENTA, a Bengaluru-based teacher accreditation platform, recently closed a funding round of $1 million (Rs 8.3 crore) from several angel investors. The Teaching as a Service (TaaS) offering will be launched with the funds raised and the technological capabilities of the existing platform will be improved.

The round was led by notable angel investors, including Prem Kumar (former HCL executive), Leo Puri (JP Morgan), Kabir Narang (B Capital Group), Bahram Vakil (AZB & Partners), and Govind Iyer (ex-Egon Zehnder International).

Founded by Ramya Venkataraman, CENTA is focused on making teaching a more aspirational profession. Through its MyCENTA platform, teachers can assess and certify their competencies, get access to career opportunities, rewards, and recognition, and support their professional development journey. The platform also helps schools and systems recruit, develop, and retain excellent teachers, creating a virtuous cycle for the industry.

CENTA runs three verticals: teacher training, teacher certification, and skill-based training. Of these, testing and training contribute nearly 45% each, while recruiting contributes the remaining 10%.

Commenting on the development, Ramya Venkataraman, Founder and CEO of CENTA, said: “This funding represents a vote of confidence in our mission and underscores the power of teachers as both catalysts of social impact and engines of economic growth.”

CENTA currently has a presence in 7,000 locations across the country and has improved the lives of over 1.5 million teachers. It works with NCERT, CBSE, and State Education Boards to empower teachers in government schools and improve overall academic quality.

Prem Kumar, former MD of HCL Infosystems, commented on the development, saying that CENTA’s growth is a natural outcome of a well-thought-out strategy that catered to the unmet requirements of the target audience.

Education technology is becoming increasingly important in the digital age, and CENTA’s platform is revolutionizing the way teachers are trained, certified, and employed. With its latest funding round, the platform is set to make a greater impact in the industry and empower teachers to make a difference.
