EdTechReview: Orbital Mechanics, Attitude Dynamics and Control, Space-Based Navigation, and Mission Planning Course for Space Scientists and Engineers
IN-SPACe, the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre, in collaboration with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and leading academic institutions, has announced a comprehensive short-term course focused on space technology. The two-day residential programme, which began on December 17, 2023, at ISRO Guest House, Devanahalli, Bengaluru, provides hands-on experience to students in developing mission profiles, optimizing launch windows, and dealing with mission constraints.
The course is designed to equip participants with the fundamental principles and hands-on experience to plan and optimize space mission operations. It draws on the expertise of experienced faculty from ISRO, leading academic institutions, and industry. It aims to provide a foundation for future space scientists and engineers, and to foster skill development in the space sector.
The course is open to academicians, industry executives, graduates, postgraduates, and researchers. The programme will include immersive training on mission profile development, optimizing launch windows, and dealing with mission constraints. Participants will gain an in-depth exposure to developing mission profiles, optimizing launch windows, and navigating the challenges inherent in space missions.
The ANSYS Team will lead sessions on the practical aspects of Spacecraft Orbit Modelling and Spacecraft Simulation Environment, while the MathWorks India team will lead sessions on AI for space applications using MATLAB.
Vinod Kumar, the Director & Promotion Directorate of IN-SPACe, said: “This initiative is a learning platform created by IN-SPACe to translate the government’s vision for the space sector into tangible skills and knowledge in space technology. The course contents are designed to train participants in developing the ‘brain’ of a satellite, that is, the onboard computer and other systems, to enable the satellite to perform autonomously in space. The course will empower individuals with the skills needed to contribute significantly to India’s space missions and nurture the next generation of space specialists.”
With the help of this course, teachers and educators can better equip their students with the knowledge and skills they need to pursue a career in space sciences and engineering. The course is also a great way for industry professionals to stay up to date with the latest developments in the space sector.
