Online learning has become increasingly popular in recent years, and now Verizon is joining the fray with its new Skill Forward program. The company has partnered with edX, an online learning platform from 2U, Inc., to help Americans upskill and reskill for today’s fastest-growing jobs.
Verizon Skill Forward is a tuition-free, online education portal offering technical and professional pathways across in-demand industrial sectors. There’s no prior experience or college degree required to participate, and learners can access self-paced, expert-led courses designed by leading universities and industry experts for 12 months at no cost. Courses are available in Spanish and cover topics such as artificial intelligence, business, coding, communication, data, finance, and IT.
Participants in the program will also have access to the edX Career Engagement Network, which offers career development and exploration tools such as advice, resources, a job board, and industry-related events and workshops. Additionally, learners can explore the Skills Builder, a tool designed to match career goals to relevant learning opportunities.
Verizon Skill Forward is part of the company’s Citizen Verizon initiative, which seeks to bridge the digital divide and provide access to opportunities for economic advancement in under-resourced communities across the US. The program is expected to help 500,000 individuals prepare for future jobs by 2030.
Anant Agarwal, Chief Executive Officer of edX, commented: “Together with Verizon, edX is expanding access to education, ensuring everyone can achieve their ambition regardless of their background or current skills. This collaboration is a testament to our shared belief in the power of high-quality online education to create a better future for all.”
Verizon Skill Forward is an exciting new initiative that could help millions of Americans gain the skills they need to pursue high-growth jobs. With edX’s range of job-relevant courses and programs, learners have the opportunity to gain the knowledge and experience they need to become successful. Teachers can use this program to help students explore career options and equip them with the skills they need to pursue their goals.
