The future of education is inextricably linked to technology, so it is no surprise that the University for Peace (UPEACE) and CodersTrust, a global skill development organization, have recently partnered to provide next-generation skills training for the digital era. The agreement was signed at UPEACE’s campus in San Jose, Costa Rica and was attended by the Minister of Education of Bangladesh, Dr. Dipu Moni.

Aziz Ahmad, Chairman of CodersTrust, and Professor Fransisco Rojas Aravena, Rector of UPEACE, signed the agreement in the presence of Dr. Juan Carlos Sainz Borgo, Vice Rector of UPEACE, and Md. Shamsul Haque, CEO of CodersTrust. During the ceremony, Dr. Moni praised both UPEACE and CodersTrust for their efforts to transform unemployed and under-employed youth into skilled workers across the globe.

Professor Aravena expressed his admiration for CodersTrust’s focus on helping underprivileged and underemployed individuals develop the digital skills necessary to succeed in the global IT market. He noted that the use of innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence is essential for human security and well-being.

Headquartered in New York City, CodersTrust has partnered with several organizations, including DANIDA, UNDP, World Bank, WFP, Dutch Foundation, Swanirvar Bangladesh, BRAC, CARE Bangladesh, Ministry of ICT Bangladesh, Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, Palli Karma Sahayok Foundation-PKSF, and more, to facilitate its ICT endeavors.

CodersTrust Chairman Aziz Ahmad expressed his belief that the partnership between UPEACE and CodersTrust will contribute to world peace by providing job opportunities and helping to address global challenges, such as poverty, inequality, climate change, health, and education. He also noted that the current pandemic has led to a projected $17 trillion in losses due to educational setbacks, and that 1 billion youth are entering the labor market this decade with a risk of un/under-employment.

The signing ceremony was followed by a roundtable discussion on Human Rights and Peacebuilding in the Digital Age, with Ahmad as a panellist. Educators and technology experts from around the world explored how technology can be used to promote human rights and peacebuilding.

The University for Peace is a unique global academic institution that trains future leaders to explore and formulate strategies to address the causes of multiple problems that threaten human security and well-being. With its Master’s and Doctoral degree programs, UPEACE is helping to create a new generation of leaders who will use technology to create a more peaceful world.

Educators have a unique responsibility to equip students with the digital skills necessary to succeed in the 21st century. The new partnership between UPEACE and CodersTrust is a step towards achieving this goal and will go a long way in creating a more equitable and prosperous society.
