EdTechReview.in is thrilled to report on the innovative partnership between Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop Public Schools (GFW) in Minnesota and Discovery Education, the global leader in EdTech. As part of a multi-year collaboration, GFW will leverage Discovery Education’s cutting-edge digital platform to create engaging science lessons for K-12 classrooms.
Nestled in the prairie of south-central Minnesota, GFW is a school district committed to growing future world-class leaders. The district offers small class sizes, school-aged childcare, early childhood programs, and co-curricular programs. It also uses advanced technology applications to access educational resources worldwide.
In order to further prepare students for success beyond graduation, GFW sought digital resources that would deepen engagement in science. After careful consideration, GFW chose Discovery Education for its suite of innovative digital resources and its ability to align with Minnesota state and NGSS standards.
Discovery Education’s K-12 learning platform provides educators with a vast collection of high-quality, standards-aligned content, ready-to-use digital lessons, intuitive quiz and activity creation tools, and professional learning resources. Its resources are sourced from trusted partners and are infused with research-based teaching practices. GFW will also benefit from Pivot Interactives, a platform that makes teaching science with active learning and scientific phenomena engaging and accessible. Lastly, the district will use Discovery Education Science Techbooks, a comprehensive, research-backed K-12 science solution.
In addition to digital resources, GFW educators using Discovery Education services will receive dedicated professional development from Discovery Education’s team of experienced learning experts. These learning opportunities will help school systems maximize the power of these resources, increase student engagement in learning, and support the continued academic growth of all students.
Commenting on the collaboration, GFW Superintendent Jeff Horton said, “At GFW, we work to ensure all students can reach their full potential and become successful, responsible citizens in a diverse society with innovative technology and strong teacher support. This new partnership with Discovery Education supports all educators as they engage students in our science curriculum.”
Katelin Greer, National Partnerships Coordinator of Discovery Education, added, “We at Discovery Education are thrilled to partner with GFW Public Schools to provide an equitable and quality education to all students. The district’s thoughtful use of available funding is already being emulated across the region, and we look forward to supporting this important initiative as it unfolds.”
EdTechReview.in applauds GFW for its forward-thinking approach to engaging students and teachers in science. We are excited to see how this new partnership will support GFW’s mission of providing an equitable and quality education to all learners.
