In the world of Education Technology, GoStudent is leading the way with the launch of GoVR, a game-changing virtual reality language learning platform designed to revolutionize language learning for students aged 13-18.
This innovative platform has been developed in collaboration with Immerse, an award-winning VR training platform, and was supported by Meta with a hardware donation of Meta Quest 2 VR headsets. GoVR is tutor-led and provides group language learning experiences, helping students to develop their foreign language speaking skills and confidence through immersive and ‘real-life’ settings.
Co-founder & CEO of GoStudent, Felix Ohswald, commented on the launch: “GoVR represents a quantum stride in language learning. We’ve reimagined the traditional classroom into an engaging playground where students can experience, interact with, and learn languages in fun and effective ways. Our partnership with Immerse and Meta further cements our position as a leading EdTech player, and we are confident that GoVR supports our mission to provide students with innovative and personalised learning experiences.”
GoVR not only encourages social interaction and collaboration between students, but also bolsters their confidence, making them feel less anxious and more empowered. Immerse conducted research to assess the impact of VR technology in language learning, which found that it leads to significant improvements in listening and reading skills, with 98.8% of students reporting improved English speaking skills.
Each GoVR lesson is designed to cater to the learners’ specific needs and lasts around 50 minutes. Classes can be joined via VR headset or desktop, and are comprised of one-eight students, ensuring an interactive, immersive, and personalized learning experience.
GoStudent Co-Founder & COO, Gregor Müller, expanded on the potential of GoVR: “Envision yourself as a soccer coach, passionately delivering a half-time locker room speech to your favourite team, all while honing your English. Or picture yourself in Paris, practising your French as you order a delicious crepe underneath the Eiffel Tower. With GoVR, scenarios like these transform from mere fantasies into interactive learning environments that students want to engage with.”
GoVR offers students more than 40 virtual environments, with scenarios centred around teamwork-based exercises. These range from restaurants and comedy clubs to TV studios and a desert island, with new sites being added monthly to keep experiences fresh and motivating.
Nick Clegg, President, Global Affairs at Meta, commented on the project: “For most of us, learning is social – we learn from and with others and from each other’s experiences. That’s why the unique feeling of presence and immersion these technologies create can be so transformative for education. Partners like GoStudent will help us understand how teachers and students can get the best out of these technologies.”
GoVR is a cost-effective solution, priced between 25€ and 27€ per lesson, making this cutting-edge technology accessible to all. Existing GoStudent customers can book a GoVR session instead of a regular tutoring session through their subscription.
Founded in 2016, GoStudent has expanded its portfolio over the past two years with the acquisition of three EdTech companies – Seneca Learning, Tus Media and Fox Education – and offline tutoring business, Studienkreis. These companies aim to unite the best online and offline worlds to unlock every child’s potential, and the company now employs more than 1,500 staff and supports more than 5 million families monthly.
GoStudent’s pioneering virtual reality language learning platform offers an interactive, immersive, and personalized learning experience. It provides students with the opportunity to hone language skills and confidence in fun and engaging ways, and is sure to revolutionize the EdTech world.
