EdTechReview.in recently reported on Class Companion, an AI platform that supports teachers to provide fast, personalized feedback to their students. The platform, co-founded by Avery Pan and Jack Forbes, recently announced a seed round of $4 million led by Index Ventures, with participation from OpenAI Startup Fund and notable angels, including Gokul Rajaram, Terrence Rohan, and Andrej Karpathy.
Class Companion is designed to help teachers give instant feedback and allow their students to learn at their own pace. Thousands of teachers use the platform to create assignments, engage students, generate feedback, and gain insights into progress. It also provides hints, contextual knowledge, modification suggestions, and progress recognition, all while giving teachers full control over the process.
The goal of Class Companion is to reduce the amount of time teachers spend on grading and feedback and allow them to focus more energy on group discussions and individual instruction. Studies have shown that when students are given the opportunity to make mistakes and receive immediate feedback, their learning is accelerated and they become more motivated to improve.
Nina Achadjian, Partner at Index Ventures, said: “Class Companion has created a seamless way for teachers to leverage cutting-edge AI technology that gives them and their students a far better school experience. Avery and the team have built trust with teachers, students, and parents, delighting them with an easy-to-use and effective platform for personalized feedback.”
Class Companion was founded when co-founder Avery Pan was looking for ways to assist her high school instructors and her mother and mother-in-law, both of whom were former English professors. Avery understood the need for precise criticism as a writing tutor, so she teamed up with Jack Forbes, whose mother works at Bainbridge High School, to create the platform.
Class Companion aims to provide teachers with the resources they need to help their students succeed. With the help of AI, teachers can now give students personalized feedback and support them as they learn at their own pace.
