Education technology is rapidly becoming an integral part of modern learning, and AltSchool Africa is leading the charge. The tech-enabled platform has seen a 40% completion rate in its first year, and is taking a non-conventional approach to learning by introducing Creative Economy and Business Schools to its existing nine courses. Applications are now open for the first cohort of these new streams.
AltSchool Africa aims to empower learners with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive in today’s world. By providing a comprehensive and experiential upskilling platform, it is giving its learners the chance to forge careers in growing sectors outside of technology. In the last two years, the platform has facilitated nearly 3 million hours of training in software engineering, data science, and product design.
The new programs focus on non-traditional careers, such as music management, content creation, and influencer marketing. To help learners gain a full understanding, AltSchool Africa has enlisted the help of renowned facilitators. Nigerian artist Falzthebahdguy (Folarin Falana), content creator and actor Mr. Macaroni (Adebowale Adedayo), media personality Do2dtun (Oladotun Ojuolape Kayode), Nigerian film director and cinematographer Nora Awolowo, multi-award-winning music journalist Joey Akan, and content creator Aproko Doctor (Chinonso Egemba) are all part of the school’s faculty.
Africa’s music streaming market is expected to reach US$524M by 2027, and with the advent of popular streaming services, the relevance of jobs within this and the wider creative economy has increased. Co-Founder and CEO of AltSchool Africa, Adewale Yusuf, believes that the platform’s unique teaching methods can help individuals better retain information, and its goal is to create a fun and communal learning platform for all Africans.
Dr Ademola Akinrinola, Director of Curriculum and Learning Experience Design at AltSchool Africa, said, “Our curriculum is designed to cater to learners of all levels, from beginners to experts, who possess a natural curiosity and a drive to solve problems”. With no educational requirements and courses costing as little as $100, AltSchool Africa is helping bridge the gap between job seekers and employers, and providing young people with the skills they need for a brighter future.
