The EdTech industry has seen an unprecedented surge in the past few years. With the growing demand for tech education, it is no surprise that the Indian government took notice and decided to take action. On World Youth Skills Day, the Union Minister of Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Dharmendra Pradhan, launched AI for India 2.0, a free online course to teach AI skills in Indian languages.
This programme is a joint initiative of Skill India and GUVI, and is accredited by the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET) and IIT Madras. It aims to provide quality tech education to rural youth and dismantle the language barrier in the process. Pradhan lauded India’s effective adoption of digital payments and expressed his appreciation for GUVI’s efforts in developing the programme in nine different Indian languages.
The AI for India 2.0 program has opened up numerous opportunities for students with low English proficiency. It has also enabled a more diverse and representative AI workforce, which is essential for creative and innovative progress. GUVI is continuously striving to democratize tech education through its platform, mentors and community, and has already made its mark in over 1,200 engineering colleges across India.
The EdTech industry is growing exponentially and with the launch of this programme, students from all backgrounds can now access quality AI education. It is a great opportunity for teachers to encourage their students to take advantage of the free online course and learn AI skills in their native language. With the right guidance and access to resources, the students are sure to reap the benefits of this programme.
