EdTechReview.in is excited to announce the upcoming e-Yantra Robotics Competition 2023-24, led by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay. This annual competition is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in the modern world of emerging technologies.
The competition’s theme this year is “The Space Beyond”, challenging participants to develop innovative solutions to problems set in a space scenario. Hardware-based themes have been set for participants, and those selected will be provided with free robotic kits. The competition is open to college students who are enrolled in teams of two to four members from any year and branch of the same institute.
The competition is divided into two stages. The first stage will involve training participants using simulators, while the second stage will be a testing period for the teams to solve problem-solving tasks utilizing real hardware.
Principal Investigator of e-Yantra, Professor Kavi Arya, is passionate about encouraging young minds to move away from the “knowledge consumer” mentality and shift towards becoming “knowledge creators”. She believes that this will better prepare students for the rapidly changing world of technology, where they will need to be agile and have an entrepreneurial outlook. Professor Arya’s aim is to “create student innovators for local disruption”.
The e-Yantra Robotics Competition has been funded by the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India, for over a decade. During this time, the competition has grown in popularity, with registrations recently reaching an impressive range of more than thirty-four thousand. This increase is a testament to the value that participants find in the competition and the skills that are taught, such as problem-solving, critical thinking, online learning, teamwork, collaboration and more.
Each competition theme also teaches state-of-the-art technologies, such as Robotic Operating System (ROS), Drone Control, Control System Design, Robot Design, Machine Learning (ML), Image Processing (IP), 3D Design, Embedded Systems, Geographic Information System (GIS), FPGA Programming, and more. These technology stacks arm students with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the job market and even inspire them to pursue higher degrees and develop their own engineering startups.
Furthermore, the e-Yantra Robotics Competition also offers a six-week paid summer internship at IIT Bombay. This opportunity is available to over 100 interns each year, who will get to work on ambitious technical projects and attend enriching talks on various topics, such as geopolitics, money & investing, and soft skills.
Teachers, this is a great opportunity to encourage your students to participate in this competition. With the high-quality skills taught, participants will be better prepared to navigate the ever-changing world of global opportunities. Cash prizes worth INR 10 Lakhs are at stake this year, and registrations are open till August 25, 2023. Students also stand to benefit from a 20% discount if they register before August 10, 2023.
