Teachers and educators around the world are always on the lookout for new opportunities to expand their knowledge base and share their expertise. One such opportunity has recently come to fruition with Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) and China Medical University, Taiwan, signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen their academic and research collaboration.
The signing ceremony occurred on August 3rd, 2023, with representatives from both universities present to commemorate the momentous occasion. The collaboration aims to create a framework for collaborative research programmes between the two universities, with a focus on advancing biophysics and life sciences.
Lt. Gen (Dr.) M.D Venkatesh, Vice-Chancellor of Manipal Academy of Higher Education, and Guan-Yu Zhuo, Associate Professor of China Medical University, Taiwan, were the signatories of the MoU. During the ceremony, Lt. Gen (Dr.) Venkatesh expressed his admiration for the team at MAHE who had worked tirelessly to bring this collaboration to life. He stated that the partnership will help to create global citizens through structured academic programmes, and will further progress innovative research endeavours that aim to address pressing social needs.
The China Medical University, Taiwan, is a world-renowned institution that offers a comprehensive, interdisciplinary education with a global perspective. It is one of the top medical colleges in Taiwan, with two campuses located in Taichung and Beigang. The University offers a wide range of programs in Western medicine, Chinese medicine, pharmacy, healthcare, life sciences, management and general health.
The MoU opens the door for faculty, researchers, and students from both institutions to collaborate on meaningful research projects and knowledge exchanges. This will undoubtedly help to deepen cross-cultural understanding and contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge.
The ceremony was attended by several distinguished guests, including Dr Fu-Jen Kao of the National Yang-Ming Chiao Tung University, Taiwan, and other representatives from MAHE and China Medical University. On behalf of MAHE, Dr Sharath K. Rao (Pro Vice-Chancellor – Health Sciences) and Dr Karunakar Kotegar (Director – International Relations) also attended the ceremony.
MAHE offers a wide range of professional higher education courses that span across a variety of disciplines, such as medicine, engineering, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, allied health, management, communication, life sciences, and hotel administration. The University has two off-campus centres, one in Mangalore and one in Bangalore, one medical college with the TATA Group in Jamshedpur, and two offshore campuses in Dubai (UAE) and Melaka (Malaysia).
